Tech Networks of Boston (TNB) is pleased to invite nonprofit professionals to a Roundtable session about web strategies for nonprofit organizations. Our featured guests will David Delmarand Muigai Unaka of Resilient Coders.
Here’s what David and Muigai say about this session:
“You know your organization needs a new website. You’re just not sure whether to use Square Space, WordPress, Wix, Google Sites, or whether to hire an agency, a freelancer, or your friend’s nephew. Some options are free, some cost dozens of dollars, and some cost tens of thousands of dollars. You’re unclear about the pros and cons of each option, and which path is right for your organization, at this particular point in your journey.
“Building a website is like buying a bicycle: Sure, there are options that are more souped-up than others, and that are priced accordingly. But the most important thing is that it be the right fit. Let’s determine the right fit for you, together.”
Here’s a little more about David and Muigai:
David Delmar is the founder and executive director of Resilient Coders, a Boston-based nonprofit that provides coding education, workforce training, and employment opportunities to people from traditionally underserved communities. Resilient’s education platform is a bootcamp that teaches the fundamentals of web development. Students are trained in some of the industry’s most sought-after skills, by professionals, and are provided stipends to do so.
Before launching Resilient Coders, David led a team of designers and developers at an advertising tech startup that was ultimately acquired by PayPal. He and his team designed and built first-to-market digital advertising concepts for big brands, including Coca Cola, FedEx, Starbucks, and Best Buy.
Resilient Coders also operates an agency, called Resilient Lab, that employs back its own graduates through technical fellowships, during which they build websites and web applications for paying clients, ranging from community organizations like Roslindale Village Main Streets, to bigger clients like New York University.
Resilient Lab is led by Muigai Unaka. He holds his team of technical fellows to exacting standards, and has earned the nickname of “The General.” After their time in the Lab, students go on to work at companies like Microsoft, The Boston Globe, Hill Holliday, Wayfair, and a number of startups, thanks in no small part to the time spent under his command.
David, Muigai, and the whole Resilient Coders team believe in the opportunity for meritocracy in tech, and in the resiliency of Boston’s youth.
Please note:
1) In keeping with the spirit of the TNB Roundtable series, this session will NOT be a sales pitch for any product or service. This will be a professional development opportunity for nonprofit professionals who want to learn with and from their peers in other organizations.
2) This session is for employees of nonprofit organizations. It is not designed to meet the needs of vendors, volunteers, students, consultants, job-seekers, and others.
3) Priority in registration will be given to those who are employed by nonprofit organizations that hold full membership in the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network.
4) Participation in this session is free of charge for nonprofit professionals. However, you must have a confirmed registration in order to attend.
5) If this session is booked to capacity by the time you seek to register for it, please go ahead and put yourself on the waiting list. We have a good track record of finding seats for nonprofit professionals on the waiting list.
We hope that you can join us for a vigorous and informative conversation, in which you will be welcome to share your knowledge and experience with your peers!
