Tech Networks of Boston’s Deskside Support Program allows mission-based organizations to receive invaluable hands-on technology support from talented technicians who are participating in a structured workforce development program. Since program inception, 20 students have completed internships, 15 have joined TNB as Deskside Support Technicians, and 3 have completed the two year program and gone on to successful careers in IT.
In a competitive process, TNB and educational partners select students with a demonstrated ability to acquire IT skills for six-week unpaid internships that provide students with real world experience inside a busy managed IT service environment. Interns accompany TNB field technicians as they service TNB’s client organizations. Under the direction and guidance of TNB’s technical staff, interns participate in IT-related support, advice, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.
For the first two years of their employment at TNB, Deskside Support Technicians (DSTs) are placed as TNB paid employees at our client partner organizations. Working on a daily basis at the client site, the DST provides IT-related support, advice, troubleshooting, and maintenance to all functional groups within the client organization.
